By means of theoretical analysis and experimental research, the temperature change law of gas adsorption and desorption process in coal body at different conditions was experimentally investigated. The research results indicate that, gas adsorption in coal body is an exothermal process, while its desorption is an endothermal process; the extent of temperature change is correlated with metamorphic grade of coal, balance pressure of gas adsorption, particle size of coal, variety of adsorbed gas and water content of coal sample; temperature change curve accords with exponential function. Thermodynamic and energy dissipation law was performed for the gas desorption process in coal body. Temperature-desorption amount model was established for the gas desorption process in coal body; polytropic exponent was theoretically computed; revised polytropic index-based temperature change model was constructed for the gas desorption process in coal body. The research results will provide theoretical and experimental foundations for prediction and diagnosis of coal and gas outburst in work face by using coal temperature, and are of important significance to prediction of coal and gas outburst.
