The purpose of this study is to develop the probabilistic hazard assessment maps for Yangon and its surrounding areas including’Peak Ground Acceleration’ values for 2% and 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years at rock sites. The seismic hazard assessment (SHA) for Yangon and its surrounding areas were done using the probabilistic approach. Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) has been carried out for the seismically active region of Yangon and its surrounding areas. The seismic sources have been defined spatially in nine source zones, characterized by a commonly used recurrence law and a maximum magnitude value. The present study area is situated between the latitudes of N 13°37’and N 20°2’and the longitudes of E 93°35’ and E 99°5’. The study areas of nine source zones are centered at Yangon with the radius about 200 km.The peak ground acceleration values were calculated, and the probabilistic seismic hazard curves and maps with a probability of exceedance of 2% as well as 10% in 50 years were provided. The results show that the source zone-1 (longitude:96.33°, latitude: 18.18°) and source zone-6 (longitude:95.45°, latitude:16.37°) have the highest hazard levels, and the source zone-4 (longitude:96.44°, latitude:16.21°) and source zone-7 (longitude:96.10°, latitude:17.37°) have the lowest hazard levels. The details of the hazard levels are very useful for building the codes of Yangon and its surrounding areas.
