In the past decades, with the experimental development, more and more candidates of light mesons were observed. It is the suitable time to carry out a systematic study of light mesons. How to categorize them into meson family is an important topic. Thus, the analysis of mass spectrum associated with the study of the two-body Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI)-allowed strong decays is an effective approach to achieve this aim. In this Ph.D thesis, we carried out the studies of the mass spectrum and decay behaviors of light meson family systemically, where we mainly focus on these isovector and isoscalar light mesons, and these states in kaon family. In this thesis, we firstly introduce our theoretical progresses on isovector tensor mesons, axial vector mesons, pseudotensor mesons, and high-spin mesons below 3 GeV. For analyzing their mass spectra and obtaining their strong decay behaviors, we adopt Regge trajectories approach and the quark pair creation (QPC) model. By these studies, we can establish isovector tensor meson family, axial vector meson family, pseudotensor meson family, and high-spin meson family by combining with the present experimental data. In addition, we can obtain abundant information of higher radial and orbital exci-tations in light meson family, which is valuable to future experiments like BESⅢ, BelleⅡ and PANDA.Besides studying these light meson families, we also pay attention to the states of kaon family. Since kaon contains a strange and a u/d quarks, kaon can be approximately treated as heavy-light meson system. In this thesis, we adopt modified Godfrey-Isgur quark model by including color screening effect to give the analysis of mass spectrum of kaon family, by which we can obtain the structure information of these observed kaon candidates. And then, we further test these possible assignments by comparing the theoretical result of their two-body OZI-allowed decays with the experimental data. Additionally, we also predict the behaviors of some partial decay widths of these kaons, which are still missing in experiment. This study is crucial to establish kaon family and future search for their higher excitations. In summary, these studies presented in this thesis and these former several papers from our research group form a systematic work of light meson family. By these investi-gations, we reveal the properties of light mesons, which will stimulate experimentalist’s interest in exploring light mesons.
