International business is developing rapidly because of the economic globalization. The blend and conflict of different culture is imposing great influence on international business management, which is a problem that is always there but has frequently been neglected. In most cases, the neglect will result in great losses to a company. This dissertation is trying to make some exploration on cross-cultural management in international business by making use of those researching results in cross-cultural study in order to promote the research in this field in China.First, on the base of reviewing the definitions and characteristics of culture, the major fruit in cross-cultural research, some dimensions used in comparing cultural differences in this research are provided. Besides, the cultural adaptability of western classic management ideas and theories is analyzed.Second, organization is the basic unit of international business. People in various cultures will have different opinions in the connotation, design, structure and process of organization. The cultural influences on organizational design such as setting organizational aim, designing supporting aims, policy, regulations and plan, determining, analyzing and classifying tasks, deciding the units for the tasks, determining the power of the leaders in different departments, drawing the organizational structure chart are analyzed. The cultural influences on organizational process such as policy and regulations, decision-making process, planning process, determining rights and responsibility, process and communication of information are also discussed.Third, human resources management and motivation are of the greatest importance in management, also most sensitive to cultural difference in internal management. The cultural influences on employment and selection, training and development, achievement evaluation and payment, leadership style, motivating methods and results are explored.Forth, the success of international marketing greatly depends on the correct understanding of cultures in various countries and regions. The cultural influences on market research, marketing methods and strategies, after-sale services are analyzed.Fifth, all international business is based on communication. There are different ways of coding and decoding information in various cultures, which can cause obstacles in communication. The cultural influences on communication media, styles are analyzed. In addition, the cultural influences on cross-cultural business negotiation are also explored, including the formation of negotiation team, negotiation aim and purposes, the expectation of the negotiation result, the selection of negotiation strategies.Sixth, it is suggested that proper ways should be found on the base of identifying and respecting cultural differences in order to realizing efficient management. Cultural shock is a common problem for international staffs, which can be overcomed through cross-cultural training, keeping minds open, adjusting oneself quickly etc. Cross-cultural enterprises can solve the problems caused by cultural conflicts through enhancing cultural understanding, promoting cross-cultural communication ability, building and developing new enterprise culture that takes the cultural differences into account. Internationalised enterprises can choose the most suitable cross-cultural management mode according to their own basic management strategies.Finally, the reasons of the success and failure of two famous enterprises in China, SOUHU and GUANZHOU PEUGEOT, are discussed from the view of cross-cultural management by utilizing the results of this research. It's proved that the cultural differences and conflicts can exert huge impact on management, which can sometimes decide the future of an enterprise.
