The business platform of the high-tech enterprise is the microcosmicstrategic base of leading its production and management to success orfailure. This dissertation presents a systematic study of the businessplatform and its elements in the high-tech enterprise, aiming atstructuring a practical and operable business platform model of thehigh-tech enterprise, and at offering an effective analytic framework foracademic research and practical operation of the commercialization ofthe high-tech achievements and the production and management of thehigh-tech productsEmploying the core conception and instrument of the businessplatform, and applying the methods of systematic-analysis and modeling,the author studies the achievement process and mechanism of thestrategic target for commercializing high-tech achievements in acomprehensive framework. Structuring and analyzing the businessplatform model, the author studies the basic links and main contents ofthe realization of the strategic target of commercialization of thehigh-tech achievements in the coordinative evolution course of elementsof conception, technology, product, market, production and management,and offers new thoughts, methods and framework for the theoretic studyof the process and mechanism of the commercialization of the high-techachievements, on the one hand;and on the other hand, explores aneffective conceptual model and operable canonical form for the firmpractice of the commercialization of the high-tech achievements, forthe production and management of the high-tech products, and for thetechnical management and strategic management.The major innovation of this dissertation is that it advances theconceptual framework of business platform and reveals, concisely andsystematically, the decisive microcosmic-strategic base of thecommercialization of the high-tech achievements and of the survival anddevelopment of the high-tech enterprise.This dissertation presents the research result concerning fouraspects.1. A general model of the process for commercializing high-techachievements, in such two stages as of the preliminary and the deepcommercialization, is structured. It combines the processes of ventureand non-venture investment organically, and synthesizes theresource-based view and the theory of competitive advantage concerningthe industrial structure.2. The conceptual model of the business platform, marking thehigh-tech enterprise realize the primary strategic target forcommercializing the high-tech achievements, is derived from the generalmodel of the process for commercializing high-tech achievements;and itis confirmed that the business platform is the carrier of the corecompetences, the source of the business advantages and the base of thecompetitive strategy of the high-tech enterprise.3. The framework and the elements of the business platform areanalyzed systematically in theory. (1) It is confirmed that the newconcept of product is the source, the core and the target guide of thebusiness plan. The product concept, internalized as an idea, has the basicroles of direction and restraint to the R&D, production, sale, service andmanagement of a firm. (2) The technology platform decides the basictune of the productive process and market activities of the firm, and is themost important source of the persistent competitive advantage of thehigh-tech enterprise. (3) The core product is the milestone in thecommercialization process of high-tech achievements. The successfuldevelopment of the core product marks that the new technology has beenchanged into product basically. (4) The prime target of market strategyfor commercializing high-tech achievements is to establish the basicmarket, rapidly and effectively. It is necessary to pay special attention tothe start-up of market and its strategic selection. (5) The successfuldevelopment of the core production capacity marks that the preliminarycommercialization of new technology has come true. Only the firms,which possess both unique core technologies and knowledge propertiesand powerful core production capacity, can be the real winner in thehigh-tech economy. (6) The management competence of the high-techenterprise is its organizational assets with the highest degree ofheterogeneity and the most valuable strategic resources, with high degreeof industry specificity, firm specificity and business specificity. Theorganizational competence, which has the management competence asthe soul and the technical competence as the base, is the essentialcharacteristic and survival foundation of the high-tech enterprise.4. This dissertation verifies its theoretic framework and basic views,with the results, obtained from the field research of Co. A's businessplatform for currency count machine, the document analysis of IridiumSatellite system's business platform for communication, and the casestudy of business platforms of the Apple PC, the IBM PC and the IntelCPU.
