| Nowadays, in many countries the technology of wind power has become as one of solutions to solve some challenges which the world faces such as the fossil fuel deficit, the skyrocketing oil prices and climate change. The integration of large scale wind power into the electrical grid is one kind of technologies more attractive in terms economics. However, in terms technical, there are some limitations and constraints in terms of penetration level. In Cape Verde, the interest for distributed generation system based on the renewable energy sources has become more significant in the last years due to a continuing increase of energy's demand and the high oil external dependence.Due to its good natural condition of wind, wind power generation is one of the most promising renewable energy technologies in that archipelago. At present, a project based on wind power in large scale grid-connected is ongoing. To preview all this issues and know the performance of all power system, the network operators have used the simulation method to study the power system before connecting the wind farm into network power system. In this thesis, the power system in Cape Verde is modeled and simulated with Matlab/Simulink(?) considering the wind farm of Santiago Island as a case study. The stability analysis of overall power system considers 9.35 MW-wind farm and 36 MW-diesel plant under gust condition and short circuit is evaluated. The models of wind turbine double-fed.induction generator (DFIG), diesel generator, the transmission line, the load, the converter and the STATCOM, implemented in environment block of SimPowerSystems phasor model, are presented on details. The power electronics, namely the converters and the control and protection system are proposed, tested and analyzed on details. The converter and the control system based on the dq0 reference frame are simulated considering a static compensator STATCOM of reactive power. The simulation results show a stable performance of power system when wind farm is subject to a situation of wind gust. However, the wind turbine is turn off for the scenario of the short circuit at transmission line. The converter shows a good performance for the situation of STATCOM which is a guarantee to interface the wind farm with the grid. The stabilization of electrical grid with STATCOM was tested. The simulation shows that this device can be a good solution to improve the stability of power system with wind farm mainly in case of short circuit. The economics studies based on estimation of the cost of electricity and the GHG emissions were evaluated and the results were compared with conventional diesel generation. The results show that the wind power system can be a good alternative for Cape Verde to produce electricity with competitive price and GHG emissions. |
