In computer graphics, the simulation of the smoke began in the eighties of the twentieth century, however, it is still significant and challenging. The traditional particle system and the texture mapping are hard to be competent for the complicate smoke simulation with the high requirement of realistic effects. So, the physics based method is employed in this paper. We build the real physical model of the smoke motion from its inner physical character, then solve the physical model with numerical calculation methods, get each moment's status parameters, and get each frame of the smoke motion by rendering the scene according to these status parameters. We adopt the incompressiable, nonviscous flow as the smoke's physical model, and add constrained forces on this physical model to control the smoke's behaviour. As to the numerical methods solving the physical model, we focus on researching algorithms to improve visual effects and performance. To increase the accuracy and visual reality, a high-order compact differential scheme is introduced. The foundamental of compact differential scheme is solving the derivative with an implicit method on a few grids, which more accurate results can still be achieved on coarse grids. To improve the performance, the nontimensional processing is introduced. Nondimensional processing on the physical model's equations can simplify equations' format, decrease equations' amount and the calculation, reduce the time...
