Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), being an important part of Chinese Culture, has a history of more than 3000 years. However, due to the fact that TCM prescriptions are summarized from particular treatment experiences by hand, passed down from generation to generation, the integrity, dialectic and dynamic features of TCM theory are too abstruse, quanlified and difficult to be quantified and grasped. Data mining aims at realizing the effective knowledge discovery from large scale database with resort to the powerful storage and computation capacity through precise demand definition and efficient algorithms implementation and therefore provide a new ground for TCM research. Computer school of Sichuan Univerisity has collaborated with Chengdu University of TCM in TCM data mining research since 2003 and developped a TCM data mining system TCMiner 1.0. The contributions of this dissertation include:(1) Proposing the prototype of TCMiner. The dissertation designed the prototype of TCMiner and implemented its first edition, TCMiner 1.0. Firstly, the TCM data analysis methodologies and technique routines are introduced. Secondly, the core demands of multi-dimensional TCM data analysis are analyzed. Thirdly, the design problems of TCMiner are investigated in many aspects. Then the functionalities and architecture of TCMiner is outlined.
