Active power filter is considered as the most effective method to harness the serious"power pollution", it is also an advanced power electronic device, which has many advantages and favorable prospects compared with some conventional measures. This thesis have done some deep research of the active power filter including the topology structure, the implementation technique and the control strategy, thus can provide theoretical and technical background for the prototype design, development and application.The compensation principle of the traditional shunt type active power filter is discussed, which can show that it is only used to compensate the harmonic current source. Considering the weakness, the investigated subject of the project is proposed, which is a simplified shunt type hybrid active power filter. The operating principle, mathematical modeling and the compensation characteristics of the subject are discussed in detail. The research results show that the proposed active power filter can compensate both the current harmonic current source and the harmonic voltage source. In addition, the determination method of the main parameters is deduced, which can provide the theoretical basis for the design and implementation of the prototype.The control strategy of the active power filter is also very important. Many studies on the control techniques are carried out, including the current control loop and the capacitor voltage control loop. Because of the weakness of the direct current control technique, a new current control technique, the indirect current control technique, is presented. The control performance, modeling and choice of the control methods are discussed. In addition, studies on the voltage control loop are also developed. The corresponding mathematical model is set up, and the determination method of the controller parameters is deduced. Finally, the whole control strategy for this thesis is proposed, which is the combination of the capacitor voltage control (outer loop) and the indirect current control (inner loop). The analysis about the control system model is carried out.Considering the model uncertainty and the multiple disturbances effects to the proposed active power filter, the author has adopted auto-disturbance rejection control (ADRC) technique for the first time.
