With the rapid development of wireless communication system and more and more attention paid to life security, the antiquated wireless location technology has new vital force and brings a lot of new problem. So it became hot spot in location field. Under common effort, the wireless location technology is developed fast. Its effect is more and more important in national safety, navigation and the care of social vulnerable groups.The paper mainly investigates the wireless location technology based on time delay estimation. The research keystone is the realization of passive mode location technology. And for the improvement of location precision and stability, the related important problems, for example, time delay estimation, multi-path error restraint and loacation algorithm optimization, are investigated. To resolve these problems, many new methods are proposed and traditional ways are advanced. In the last of this paper, the active mode is investigated in theory to supply the theory foundation for the further research. Because the CDMA is the one of mainstream about communication network system, the investigation in this paper mainly focus on the CDMA system. The main contents are listed below:1. The technology of time-delay estimation is studied, and the commonness and speciality of time-delay estimation are analyzed in spread spectrum System. The traditional group correlation technology is advanced, the group correlation based on maximal SNR is proposed to improve the stability of system. To improve the location success rate, the multi-search method is proposed. In the last, the TOA super-solution technology is analyzed.2. Three main error factors are studied, including the geometry profile among the base stations, multi-path error and NLOS error. Firstly, the way that judged the performance of geometry profile using HDOP is discussed. The geometry profile is improved according to the result.
