Combining mobile communications with computer networking, a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) has some characteristics such as distributed, self-organizing, self-configuring, self-managing, and so on. Without the support of fixed infrastructures, a MANET can afford a communication platform if the existing networking infrastructure can't be used. So it expands the using of mobile communication networks and can be used widely in tactical communication, emergency search-and-rescue operations, meetings or conventions. And it is an important component of the next generation network (NGN). In MANETs, routing is a key technology and it is used to search routes for data packets and transmit them to destinations. As the key components of routing technology, routing algorithms and protocols have direct effect on network performances such as the ETE delay, the throughput and the success ratio. Because MANETs have such characteristics as multihop, dynamic topology, and limited resources, classical routing algorithms and protocols can't be used directly. So, it is necessary to design special routing algorithms and protocols for MANETs, and it is a challenge. Focusing on the table-driven and on-demand routing algorithms and protocols in flat MANETs, the dissertation mainly does research on the following content: the multichannel table-driven routing algorithm based on topology maintenance, the source-routing-based table-driven multipath routing algorithm, the cross-layer efficient on-demand routing protocol, the cross-layer on-demand directional routing protocol and the MPR-flooding-based on-demand routing algorithm.Table-driven routing algorithms, such as RIP and OSPF, also called proactive routing algorithms, adopt table-driven routing discovery mechanism in which nodes exchange routing information by the periodic broadcast of control messages and utilize the received information to...
