Polymeric semiconductor materials have attracted much interest all over the world because their easily adjustable structures and properties of the light-electric interconvertion. In this dissertation, the structure characteristics and the development of polymeric semiconductor materials are reviewed, specially the progress of their applications in polymer light-emitting diode (PLED) and photovoltaic devices (PV). Poly(p-phenylene vinylene) derivatives (PPVs) are regarded as the most commercial potential materials of polymeric semiconductor and widely applied to PLED and PV devices. Three types of novel PPVs containing coumarin, squaric aicd and triarylpyrazoline were designed and synthesized. One novel triarylprazoline oligomer and three novel molecules containing anchor group were also designed and synthesized. Their thermal stability, photoluminescence, electroluminescence, photovoltaic properties and the relationship between structure and properties were studied. The research results indicated that a very convenient way to modify the structure of conjugated polymers terminated with coumarin could be tuned the light-emitting color and improved PL and EL efficiency as well, without altering their electronic properties. The films of polymers containing triarylpyrazoline have much higher photoluminescent quantum efficiencies and the turn-on voltage of m-PPVs is higher than that of p-PPVs. The fluorescent stability of triarylpyrazoline oligomer as dopant is obviously higher than that of related small molecules, and its PLED can emit pure blue light. The devices made of the polymers containing squaric acid unit and blend C60 derivative(PCBM) have good photovoltaic effect, and prospect for application in solar cells.
