With the fast development of modern information age, the information to be processed is skyrocketing immensely. The researches and applications of image processing catch great attentions from researchers all over the world. Image feature detection is the basis of the techniques and applications of image processing. However, the use of phase information for image feature detection is a new research focus. In recent years, the development of DSP technology has put the theory achievement of digital signal processing field into practical systems, and pushed the progress of new theory and application. At the same time, it plays an important role in the field of image processing.This dissertation consists of two sections. The image feature detection based on phase information is discussed in the first section. The conventional methods of image feature detection and phase congruency model are analyzed first. Then, the concept of symmetry phase congruency (SPC) is introduced. Next, symmetry phase congruency model (SPC) and symmetry local energy model (SLE) are constructed and applied to image feature detection. Finally, based on the symmetry detection and the feasibility of using phase information in symmetry detection, two phase-based symmetry detection methods are proposed. High performance of SPC and PSD is demonstrated by lots of experiments and comparisons.In the second section of this dissertation, the design and implementation of image matching machine based on TMS320C6701 is studied. Image matching machine is an important part of the object recognition system. After analyzing the performance and characteristics of TMS320C6701, the implementation scheme of image matching machine with TMS320C6701 as the core processor is put forward. The design techniques of each function module of image matching machine and problems in realization are analyzed in detail. Meanwhile, methods of determining the interface timing are discussed. And the developing procedures of hardware platform and the implementing of system software are covered in this section. Thisproject has successfully completed, and all its technical specifications are align with the requirements.
