A Probe Into Educational Administration Science From Interdisciplinary Perspective

Interdisciplinarity is a process of the multidisciplinary fusion, boundary crossing and knowledge integration. This process, as an important step and a mark of progression of scientific knowledge system, embraces great energy for the future development of the discipline, and influences the trend of correlative discipline development. All disciplines tend to be open, overlapping and mingled with other branches of learning, so educational administration science should clear up its trace of development, understand its logical starting point, and recognize its disciplinary property so as to consolidate the theoretical foundation of the system. It should be re-examined from the outside of the existing partitioning pattern to see from a new viewpoint, its structure, its present status, and its correlated sub disciplines of educational administration science. It should be examined from inwards to outwards to trace its development and disciplinary evolution and see what interdisciplinary activities are going on at the frontiers of educational administration science, to eliminate the limitations of the knowledge of the discipline and to accelerate the pace of its interdisciplinary research.On the basis of the factor analysis, the conclusion has reached to confirm that educational administration science is an independent interdiscipline stemmed from education science and developed under the theories borrowed from management science, a juxtaposition of two disciplines. In the paper, the author has presented the scholars'relevant theories of disciplinary structure of educational administration science with illustrations, and extracted 10 rearch topics based on the analysis of 11,693 essays in China Periodical Full-text Database (dating from 1979 to 2008) and 25 works on educational administration science published both at home and abroad, and accordingly, reorganize the disciplinary structure and put forth the sub disciplines of educational administration science from a new viewpoint. Within the discipline, there are mainly 18 interrelated sub disciplines, including organizational behavior in school management & administration, moral education in management & administration, school leadership, teaching principles of management, class management in school, community management & administration, school management & administration, student management, etc.But as an independent entity, educational administration science has external disciplinary correlations with more than 60 other disciplines or branches of learning. This conclusion comes from the research findings over the study of all the viewpoints in academic circles on the interdisciplines and of an original data source of 5,908 relevant papers in SSCI (from 1998 to 2008) on educational administration science, with the help of visualization analysis. These disciplines and educational administration science form 3 correlative levels and 5 disciplinary hybrids, showing the convergence and extented of each discipline towards it respectively. They merge together and maintain a dynamic balance in state.On the frontiers of educational administration science, there are mainly 24 interdisciplines,6 disciplinary hybrids. Among them, the prominent correlative disciplines are the main sub branches of psychology. The research has indicated that if educational administration science steps across one discipline boundary, it will attract more different disciplines, and create a great harmonious and complementary interdisciplinary tension of boundary-crossing over the fusion of disciplines. In order to advance the frontiers interdisciplinary research of educational administration science, measures should be taken to carry out the study of educational administration science with an open mind, strengthen the position of education and management science as the parent disciplines, use multi-facet research methods, and take advantage of all the correlative disciplines to promote the development of educational administration science.
