On National Identity

Nation refers nation to stable crowd community not only based on blood relationship and region, but also the closely connected cultural community. Individual's collection for unique spiritual culture connotation and common culture background turn to nation, also making nation have nationality which is different from other nation. The definition of nation can't have its own culture, without culture only race. From the view of culture philosophy, nation identity is national member's psychological affiliation, affective affirmation and identity on their own culture and race.This paper's innovation is beyond ethnology, anthropology, sociology, culturology and politics to analyze national identity, and uses analytical framework of cultural philosophy, and by virtue of methods of the relevant outcomes of the ethnology, anthropology, culturology, sociology and politics, to systematically study the basic content, the mechanism and the type of occurrence of the national identity from a multi-dimensional perspective, deeply analyze the inherent relationship between the national identity and the spiritual and cultural factors such as the national psychology, national consciousness and national spirit. On this basis, then I would use the national characters as coordinate to study the interaction mechanism between the national identity transformation and the national culture, the national identity crisis and the reshaping of the national spirit, to reveal the cultural content of national identity, especially the formation of spiritual culture and its social foundation and historical context, and to explore the possibility and the realization of cultivating the national spirit and promoting the possibility of a total spiritual home from the perspective of strengthening national identity.The first part (Introduction) mainly elaborates the significance of the topic, and the basic ideas, the basic elements and the basic methods of the study. This paper argues that the forming of the "nation" is not only based on the blood or the geographical relations. More importantly, it is based on the stable populations which are closely linked by the community recognition of the culture. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to in terms of the theories and method of cultural philosophy, to reacquaint and analysis the national identity" concept on a theoretical level, to build a National cultural identity concept, to highlight the central position of culture in the national identity, to further excavate the connotation of national identity from the aspects of spiritual cultural such as the culture, especially the national consciousness, national pride, national aspirations, national beliefs and national spirit, to demonstrated why it is necessary to keep cultural diversity in the world, while form a cultural consensus in the nation states;In reality to explore how to respect the cultural traditions of different ethnic groups, how to maintain the national characteristics, how to consolidate national unity and to build up the common spiritual home in which "each culture shows its own beauty and at the same time all culture show their beauty together", and ultimately to realize the concept of "working together for common prosperity and development".The second part (chapter 1) describes the meaning, the occurrence and the manifestations of national identity, discusses the basic concepts of nation, identity, national identity, cultural identity and their mutual relations, deeply analyses the occurring basis and the type of performance of national identity. This paper argues that the nation is refer to a stable common psychological community of common language, common territory, common economic life and Common psychological quality which is performance of the common features of national culture of which people form in a certain stage of historical development. On this basis, the paper further argues that the core element to distinguish between different kinds of national identity is the national spiritual culture. National identity is precisely the cognition and emotional attachment of members of society being assigned to a certain family, clan, community, class, national, cultural, etc.The third part (chapter 2) describes spiritual culture connotation on national identify. This paper considers that national identify is to status' ownership and affirmation of social member when different nations communicate. We can use many ways to affirmation, such as the identity of material culture level and system culture level. Doubtlessly, only from the view of spiritual culture's communication, we can solve the national identify. During the process of national identify, the affirmation of national status or distinguish, the consensus and exclusion of national culture is the core station, so the nature of national identify is the identity of national spirit culture. Use the research frame of culture philosophy, it is important to understand the spiritual culture connotation of national identify and solve the problem of national identify, coherent national mind, come into national resultant force.The forth part (chapter 3) explains that national identify function of spiritual culture. This paper thinks that national spirit culture is a system which is independent, self-perfect, continuously communicating with outside. National sensibility, mentality, faith, value, concept and spirit make up of system factors, and come into corresponding structure. In the process of nation, the function of spiritual culture can expresses through the function of national identity. In details, the factors of national sensibility, mentality, faith, value, concept and spirit will promote the formation and solidify of national characters, to drive the development of national history. From the production of national sensibility and mentality to the formation of national consciousness and concept, the construction of national spirit, the factors of spiritual culture system become the important mechanism to internalization, promotion and sublimation spiritual culture.The fifth part (chapter 4) illustrate the internal connection between spiritual culture and the crisis of national identify, the way to solve the crisis. The reason of crisis of national culture identify is the crisis of national spirit culture. To solve this, we need advance into the transformation of national culture. There are two ways:firstly, creative transformation by innovating national culture mode; critical rebuilding by conformity of national culture mode. The process of the construction of Chinese national homestead in common is the process which everybody participates and admits on this spiritual culture system, and the process has its cultural and spiritual significance.The sixth part (chapter 5) sets forth the thinking on national identify of identify and diversity. The commonness and difference of national identify is a objective truth. The direction of national identify is to promote the harmonious relationship and communication, the corporation among different countries and nations.
