The Fundamental Points Of Criminology

This dissertation covers the history and the future of Criminology, and puts emphases on discipline construction situation and the future of Criminology in China. Generally speaking, this work consists of four parts: the formation, generation and ontology of Criminology; the issues in criminology; the disciplinary institution of criminology; and the discipline construction and future direction of Criminology.Part one reviews the formation and generation of Criminology result from the demand of social reality, scientific development and the impulse of distinguished academicians. Six factors, the definitude of given research objects, research methods, discipline name, the progressive mature of given basic category, knowledge system, and the realization of given social value, symbolize the generation of Criminology as a discipline.Part two discourses upon the issues of Criminology as an independent social discipline. Criminology is a knowledge system on crime phenomenon, and is a social science that discovers crime rules. Seen form its research object and methods, Criminology is an interdisciplinary social science. The basic category, such as criminality, group crime phenomena, crime causes, criminal punishment, security punishment, criminal policies and crime prevention, reflects the essential attribute of Criminology, and forms the knowledge system of Criminology logically.Part three analyzes the disciplinary institution of Criminology both at home and abroad. Western criminology has, almost, finished discipline systemization of process, and is confronted with the task of furthering the research. However, criminology of China just proceeds to discipline systemization. Hence, we still have a long way to go and a grand task to perform, such as perfecting the knowledge system, constructing academic community, cultivating professional talent, and furthering applied research.The last part steps into forecasting the future of the discipline construction and development, which is based on the history review and current discipline construction situation of criminology.
