Along with China's entry into WTO, foreign capital of retail enterprises flooded into China, China's retail format displayed a complex and ever-changing facet, with new types of formats continuously emerging, traditional formats being transferred, some of the formats being overdeveloped, while some of them being under-developed, large differences occurred among profits of various formats, large size of fluctuations in development of formats, all of which reflected that the issue of retail format structure critically demands research and solutions.As regards the current researches on the retail format abroad, they are mainly limited to its evolution and spatial structure. Although some retail format structures are involved, they are largely affecting factors on quantity of stores of retail formats, absent the study from a perspective of optimization of format structure. Besides, there is one approach in light of format development saturation degree, namely, an approach by means of studying the status of saturation in a specified district, and through that, assessment criterion of format saturation degree is established, nevertheless, this method can merely be employed to conduct a comparison among formats of the same type, instead of those of different types. Consequently, the named approach can hardly help analyze the optimization of the structure in total.In reviewing the results domestic academics achieved, the author finds out that we've initialized research retail format structure earlier than in abroad, but as to the present day, some questions still remain unsolved as to what retail format structure is, what's the valuation criterion, what kind of relationship is there as between the retail format structure and retail productivities. This project will give a review at the asset structure, sales structure and profits structure as the cutting point, and combine analysis on rules with practical analysis in researching the issue of optimization of China's retail formats structure.The paper main idea is: first evaluate equilibrium degree of the retail format structure and each retail format in light of the Equilibrium Doctrine.second conducts certain researches from various perspectives in respect of retail format include profits capability, performance of function, market saturation, rise status.This project contains seven chapters as follows:First chapter Prelude which contains research on the background, the purpose, and proceeds with a brief comment on the achievements obtained currently, then introduces the major issue of this essay. And then concludes with the approaches used, technical method, major content and features of creativeness.Chapter Two The basics for retail format structure and it's optimization, which is divided into two parts, with first part dealing with the general theories relative to retail format, which includes: defining the boundaries of related terms, the general categories of retail formats given home and abroad, wherein the author established the definition of retail format structure withcreativeness; and in the second part, through creatively interpreting the Equilibrium Doctrine, the author argues that the optimization of its structure is in essence the equivalence of asset return ratios, then on the basis of it, proposes to use the similarity coefficients in clustering analysis as a valuation criterion for assessing its structure. As regards the issue of relationship among differing formats and the relationship between formats and environment, the author gives an explication by use of bionics and System Doctrine. Besides, the environmental theory is used in discussing environment's effects on the structure. Furthermore, Marxist theory on assignment is lent to proving the necessity of formation of retail format structure. This chapter concludes with a claim that life circle theory of retail format ought to be regarded as the ground in studying the current development of retail format in China, and an in -depth analysis is given to the period China's retail format by the use of that theory, along with according proposals.Chapter Three Status of China's retail format and its structure and problems therein. Firstly, a review is given to the changes of environment of retail format in China, and an introduction is given to the development of China's retail format structure and its features. Finally, the author points out the status and problems emerging within the structure in China, including structural non-equilibrium and big size of fluctuation, with enlightenments given with respect to situation in China and several districts with China.Chapter Four study on China retail format structure in light of the Equilibrium Doctrine, the essay employs similarity coefficient method in clustering analysis in valuating whole retail format structure in the whole nation and several districts in China. Furthermore, the relation between retail format structure and retail format asset return ratio is exploited by the use of statistics method, the result of which verifies the nature of optimization of retail format structure is actually equilibrium of it, namely, the asset profits are equal. At last, in light of Equilibrium Doctrine, the author study on the equilibrium degree of individual retail format in which whole retail structure equilibrium degree is given.Chapter Five study on profits capability and effect of function of retail format in China. This Chapter conducts certain researches from various perspectives in respect of retail format include profits capability, performance of function, market saturation,rise status base on above study:1 Exploits the capabilities of profiting of nonfixed assets through the method of flexibility;2 Establishes index valuation system with creativeness, and provides a valuation on the performance of retail format structure by the use of information entropy put weight;3 Exploits the saturation issue through the method of flexibility;4 Does a research on the growth rate and acceleration ratio of assets, sales and asset profits ratio.Chapter Six Some advice on optimizing retail format structure in China. The author puts forward countermeasures for optimization of the present-day retail format structure, through acomprehensive study of status and remaining problems in this area in China, in light of the lessons from the development of retail formats in U.S.A..1 Strengthen the macroscopic control in helping the optimization of retail format structure;2 Put limit on investments to departments, committing to promoting operating efficiency;3 Enlargement of investment is conditioned by carefully selecting specified types of formats as for supermarkets;4 Enlargement of investment is conditioned by carefully selecting specified classes as for specialty stores;5 Promote the format development of other types with a focus on chains stores. The project ends with a conclusion.This essay is written aiming at affording proposals to governmental competent authorities and related enterprises regarding optimization of retail format structure, solving tensions between the total and the sectors, long-term and short-term development, rationalizing investing activities, promoting abilities of avoiding risks, promoting efficiency of retail format structure, lessening wasting, satisfying the demands of consumers in a higher degree, and eventually promoting the competing power of China's retail formats.
