Abstract/Summary:
Traffic is the communication between people, between people and goods, and between goods. Generally speaking, it is the link between one group of people and another, between regions, between cities and between countries. Traffic is the sum of all transport forms and management. Transportation is the use of traffic by people.Traffic is the prerequisite and inevitable outcome of economic development, and also the prerequisite and inevitable outcome of urbanization. Urbanization is the necessary result of economic development and technological advance. And traffic has become the nerve of urbanization.Traffic is getting more and more important in the informational society. The relation between traffic and economy and between traffic and urban development has been emphasized. In modern societies, the level of economic development in a region or a country greatly depends on its level of traffic development. Therefore, this thesis attempts to explore the basic laws of traffic development in big cities, study its relations to economic and urban development, and then find out the laws, the restrictive factors and conditions of the sustainable development of traffic.We do our research by focusing on the traffic of the city of Shanghai because Shanghai is the hub of communications between metropolitans. In order to get better understanding of the relation of Shanghai' s traffic development to its economic development, we need to explore its urban and industrial developments and the characteristics of those developments. On this basis, we will also discuss the trend of Shanghai' s traffic development.The whole paper includes 7 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces research background. Chapter 2 gives a review of related theoretical research. Chapter 3 studies the relation between traffic and economic development. Chapter 4 explores the relation between traffic and urban development. Chapter 5 discusses the relation of the traffic development to Shanghai's economic development. Chapter 6 analyzes the problem of sustainable development of traffic in Shanghai.
