| After the Korean War (1950-1953), the armistice regime, based on 1953 armistice agreement, has held back another war to break out and kept the cold war structure of the Korean peninsula in place since then. From this perspective, this regime has made a certain historical contribution to the peace and stability of theKorean peninsula. However, the armistice regime was essentially a regime lack of internal stability. Firstly, for belligerent nations, signing the armistice agreement was only a temporary security arrangement at that time, it meant belligerent nations was still legally engaged in a warlike conflict; Secondly, as a part of international cold war system, thearmistice regime was the embodiment of the rivalry system between east and west blocs. On the one hand, it was enslaved to the cold war system; on the other hand, it couldn't but change along with the evolvement of international political situation.Since 50 years ago, the armistice regime has been encountered numerous obstacles and challenges. Therefore, the situation of the peninsula is actually no different from that of the Cold War; the evolving direction of the Korean peninsula is still unknown.Nowadays, the security structure of the Korean peninsula apparently seems to be a stable frame, but due to failing to entirely break away the cold war system, this structure isn't very steady. Notwithstanding still existing on the Korean peninsula, the function of the 1953 truce regime has enormously declined because great powers relations have changed greatly; meantime, the supervising and guaranteeing function of the regime also has been gradually eroded. So, how to reconstruct a new security regime to defend the peace and stability of the peninsula has become an urgent issue for consideration. In the future, the construction of a security regime on the Korean peninsula still... |
