Christianity And The Society Of The Northeast In Modern China (1866-1931)

Since YiKou was forced to be a port to foreigners in 1861, many missionaries of Christianity came to the Northeast of China and preached to the natives. They also offered various social and welfare services supporting the cause of missionary society during 1866 to 1931. More than half a century various activities of missionaries had a full impact on the society of the Northeast of China. Meanwhile, the environment of the Northeast had a subtle influence to the Christianity.The dissertation consists of nine parts:Introduction: The review on the history of learning and the inspect on the elementary theory.Chapter 1: This chapter introduces the dissemination of Christianity in the Northeast of China. The introduction includes the study of the Foreign Missions'missionary activities and some churches of native own.Chapter 2: This chapter introduces the organizations and the role of the Church of Christ in the Northeast region. It includes the organizations, constitutions history of Irish Presbyterian Church Mission, United Free Church of Scotland and Mission and Danish Lutheran Mission. In addition, the basic situation of other Missions'organizations are introduced. Basising on above, this chapter analyzies features of organizational structure of the Church of Christ in Northeast.Chapter 3: This chapter intriduces the ways and events of the missionaries in the Northeast. The charpter consists of descripts on the cultivation of the missionaries by the native people. It analyzies the ways and reasons about those native people would be the missionaries, whose roles they are in the missiaries.Chapter 4: This chapter introduces the cause of Chiristian education in Northeast region. It analyzies the reason of the Church developing the education cause in the region, and descripts the situation of those cause. It play a important role in education cause of the Northeast in modern history.Chapter 5: This chapter introduces the cause of Chiristian medical in Northeast region. It analyzies the reason of the Church developing the medical cause in the region, and descripts the situation of those cause. It play a important role in medical cause of the Northeast in modern history.Chapter 6: This chapter introduces the charity activities of Chiristian in Northeast region. It analyzies the reason of the Church developing the charity activities in the region, and descripts the situation of those cause. It play a important role in social welfare of the Northeast in modern history.Chapter 7: This chapter discripts the situation about anti-Church movement in Northeast region in modern history with three phases. The emphasis of the discription is the Boxers Movement in the period.Concluding remarks: Basing on analyzing the reason of the Church developed in modern Northeast, the dissertation discusses the course of bidirectional between Christianity and the modern Northeast of China from the point of view of politics and culture.
