Just like the other musical instruments in the world, the human vocal organ has the acousticsystem needed for the articulation that could be taken as a piece of human musical instrument. Therefore we can conduct the research of it by the means and methods we use in studying the musicacoustics. In this article, we take the timbre of Chinese national traditional as the objective of ourresearch, by way of formal logic—from the general to the particular, that is from the timbre in generalto the timbre of musical instruments, to the timbre of human vocal sounds and to the timbre of thenational traditional, to expound in details the particularity of human vocal instrument from the angleof musical acoustics, and on such a basis, analyze the timbre of singing influenced by the vocal organof human acoustic instrument, respirations, resonances and pronunciations. It is to point that due tothe differences between the traditional singing and the bel canto in the aspects such as the ratio oftrue/falsetto vocal sounds, the resonant positions of singing, the proportions and the articulations, therefore, the national timbre appears to be distinct and the bel canto seems gloomy. Various requestsin measuring the musical acoustics have been strictly observed in the method of research, fullysecured the authoritativeness and the reliability of the samples of the acoustic sources. With the aid ofmusical acoustics analysis software, following the principle of comparability, conduct the analysis andcomparisons to the sound frequency spectrums at the same vowels, the same sound volumes, the samepitches and the same acoustic ranges of different schools of singing such as the traditional singing (innarrow sense), national folk singing, Beijing opera 'qingyi' and the soprano of bel canto. Thefrequency spectrum features of four sound sources have been summed up, pointing out that thereexists many an identicalness between the national female voice and the female voice in bel canto inthe forms of singers' singing formats, such as the height, width of the summit and the range offrequencies. This study belongs to the research of basic theories in the national vocal music art, the digital, figurate and scientific characteristics of the experimental results may provide powerful ground ofevidence for further probes into the traditional singing, especially for establishing the school ofChinese national vocal science.
