Discoursive Practice And Cultural Position

Observing, examining and studying five theoretical periodicals of foreign literary theories in China, this dissertation aims at studying closely the introduction of western literary theories into China ever since the cultural transformation in 1990s. These periodicals are: Foreign Literature Review, Foreign Literatures (Beijing University), Contemporary Foreign Literatures, Foreign Literatures (Beijing Foreign Studies University), and Foreign Literature Studies. There are three reasons for selecting these five periodicals: First, the route and purpose of this dissertation determine that, unnecessary to cover everything related, it is theoretically enough so long as the selection of its researching targets is significant statistically. Second, every research has to set up a comparatively clear and steady researching range and studying field for itself, otherwise it might turn out to be impractical. Third, the selected five theoretical periodicals are very good ones representative of their kind in China. However, the selecting does not mean that this dissertation will limit its research just within the five periodicals. The other influential theoretical papers published in other periodicals in China since the cultural transformation in 1990s will also be taken into the studying vision of the dissertation, as long as they are concerned with the very topic.Since the end of the Great Cultural Revolution, the Chinese academic circles have experienced two cultural transformations.
