Scholars have studied female images in works of the period before the Tang Dynasty and achieved lots of achievements, though which have some shortcomings. At first up to day no scholar have studied these images thoroughly and comprehensively and no academic book only studying these images have appeared. Second some books and papers were only listed all kinds of female images of these works. They made little interpreting for the inherent meanings of these images and not always analyzed the reasons for these images appeared thoroughly. Third scholars have paid little attention on some literary phenomena, such as women conducting their behavior according to the Confucian Ethical Code, Sex-Bi and Xing in works, works of speaking for women. The dissertation mainly studies the female images in literature works of the period. It thoroughly studies some typical female images, summarizes chief features of these images, investigates forming reasons of these images, inspects origins and changes of these images and analyzes their positions and influence of these images in the developing history of literature. So it could found the prototypes of some images, showed the development and changes of some images and made a good understand for these images. The study is good for understanding the literature of the period. It is good for understanding the history, culture, politics and ideology of the period too.The dissertation is consisted of seven chapters. Each chapter studies and analyzes some typical female images in literature works. The end generally summarizes the development and changes of these images.The first chapter mainly studies changes of goddesses of fairy tale. Xi Wangmu was a ferocious goddess in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, then she changed into a tender hostess of the foreign land in the Biography of King Mu. The decline of the worshipping god, the growth of humanitarian sense, the strong thought of drawing lesson form history and the establish of ceremony and music and so on were essential reasons for the disappearance and the historical reform of the ancient fairy tale. These were inherent and indirect reasons for the change of Xi Wangmu too. The creative condition of the Biography of King Mu and the creative means of beautifying images were the direct reasons for the change of Xi Wangmu.
