Belief of Mazu have formed a circle of culture which is not only spreading from south to north in China, but also all over the world now. However, the current academic research on the belief is more lively in south of China than in north. Scholars always pay more attention to Fujian, Guangdong, Hongkong and Macau than other provinces. Shandong, which is the important transfer station where the belief was propagated to north, occupies a decisive position in the progress of the belies's dissemination to northern China and Japan. Only a few passages in "Studies on belief of Mazu" written by Dr. Li Xianzhang involvs Shandong. Successors don't only develop Dr.Li's theory, but also misread the historial documents. For example, Dr.Li has proved that the time when the belief of Mazu appeared in Shandong is Yuan Dynasty and the place is Chengshantou in Rongcheng. Firstly, there is a summary of Mazu, the culture of Mazu, history of research and dissemination. Secondly, I analyse and criticize the wrong thought that Mazu was a daught of Lin. At last, I make 2 forms to show the Mazu's titles which emperors offered and her family tree. The passage is both the summary of recent developments and important achievements in academic, and my opinions on Mazu, studies on Mazu and the dissemination of belief of Mazu. I think that Mazu became a goddess admitted by govenments from a witch among the people and the belief became national, which is the result that successive dynasties, local govenments and folk society worked together. It's a successful movement to creat god in Chinese society. The idea that Mazu was a daught of Lin was made by imperial order. And they stressed Mazu's remardable ability to bless the country and protect the people. It's the...
