The article is a case research on Chinese ethnic groups. As a sort of theory of social sciences growing up under the western social and cultural backgrounds, the theory about ethnic groups should have a process for localization when it was used to Chinese reality. Moreover, Chinese ethnic groups have its social and cultural foundations which is different from the western. Chinese ethnic groups' relationships are very different form the one in the western. In view of above-mentioned understanding, this study tries to reply to theories on ethnic groups with positivist researching and probe into characteristics of Chinese ethnic groups, and enrich even develop anthropological theories on ethnic groups with local material.The paper mainly includes the following sections.In introduction, the paper passes on the cause and value of the subject.In chapter I ,the paper expounds the theoretical presupposition to the study. Firstly, the paper makes a summary of internal and external ethnicity researches, and raises its own opinions on some arguments and questions.
