| The evolution of word meaning is the important subject in the history of the vocabulary. It mainly consists of two parts: one is the concrete observation on the word's development; the other is the comprehension on the developing regulation of the word meaning. Under the guidance of the existing theory, the present paper selects the Dunhuang Bianwen(敦煌變文) as the language material, during which it takes monosyllabic word as the research object and reaches back to its developing course. In addition, the paper attempts to discover the motivation, circumstances and rules concerning the evolution of word meaning through analysis, parallelism and classification of the developing locus of the word meaning. Moreover, the paper aims to reveal the differences and relations between the verb system in Binwen(變文) and the former vocabulary system through inspecting the influence of the developing words on the Dunhuang Bianwen(敦煌變文).Dunhuang Bianwen(敦煌變文) is the representative document in Chinese from middle ancient time to the modern times. Meanwhile, it is the classical work of colloquial words in the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasty. The transitional and colloquial features enable it to become an ideal language material for vocabulary study. From the first ancient to middle ancient period, great changes have taken place in Chinese vocabulary system. The appearance of new words and new meanings are two typical aspects among them.
