A Contrast Of The Topic In Chinese And Japanese

This dissertation is an contrastive study on the Topic in Chinese and Japanese. It surveys the sameness and difference of the Topic structure in Chinese and in Japanese from many aspects including the marker of Topic, the non-conventional phenomena in the structure of the Topic, the sentential forms of the Topic in Chinese and English and the relation of the contrast and the Topic.In the first chapter ,it introduces the reasons, the values of this research and the theories that this research is based on.The second chapter describes the functions of the Topic markers in Chinese and in Japanese, it especially analyses the functions of a (lf?f) , ma (#) ,ba (BE) , ne (RjS) ,wa (f±) and mo ( i> ) .In the third chapter, it describes the non-conventional phenomena in the structure of the Topic, including the ellipsis of the Topic and the Comment and the primary Topic which does not locate on the first position in the clause.The sentential forms of the Topic in Chinese and Japanese are discusses respectively in the forth chapter.In the fifth chapter, the ration of the Topic and the contrast is discusessed.The sixth chapter is the conclusion, discoveries and shortcomings of this research.
