The Role Of Archetypal Spiritual-God-Image In Jungian Psychotherapy

The spiritual-god-image and its archetypal meaning is very important in Jungian analytical psychology and in psychotherapy. Behind all kinds of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, and behind all of the various symptoms of psychological problems rests our inner seeking for the meaning of life. The archetypal spiritual-god-image, like the concept of "heaven" and "Tao" in ancient Chinese culture, exists at the deepest level of the human mind. For depth psychologist, this image is a reference both for research and therapy. Therefore, understanding the spiritual-god-image is vital to the healing and the exploration of the human psyche.In this research, I use the methods of philosophy and history to discuss the source and meaning of archetypal spiritual-god-image, and reveal its essential importance to deep psychology. I reveal the positive effects of the archetypal spiritual-god-image in psychotherapy, and the mechanism by which it can be used in clinical therapy. I also point out that for human civilization as a whole, a positive and unified archetypal spiritual-god-image has great value. Finally, I show how focusing on archetypal spiritual-god-image can lead a new method in psychotherapy.In chapter one, I introduce the development of the concept of God from Hegel to Freud and to Jung, expatiate Jung's basic psychological ideas and the meaning of his spiritual-god-image. I point out how Jung's theory developed a whole new way to understand the human psyche.In chapter two, I discuss some of Jung's personal experiences with religion, and the debates and conflicts over his idea, especially the debate on Gnosticism between Jung and religious conservatives.
