The Chinese modern psychology started from 1902 and 1904 when the Renyin-Kuimaoschool system was set up and psychology was identified as a general discipline, to1917 when Cheng Daqi built the first psychological laboratory in Beijing University.And the Chinese contemporary psychology had gone through four stages – establishment(from 1917 to 1920), development (from 1921-1930), formation of disciplinary system(from 1931-1937) and stagnation (from 1938 to 1949). Chinese psychology developedin three routes: common curriculum in teacher's schools, special in educationfaculties and special in psychology faculties, and the latest is the focused one.The Chinese modern and contemporary psychology established and developed on acomplicated political, economic, cultural and educational background of Chinasociety. The needs of modernizations of society, human being and education providedthe establishment and the development of Chinese psychology a wide range of nutritiousearth and space. The input and popularization of western psychology offered theestablishment and development of Chinese psychology the fundamental theories,knowledge and disciplinary structures and research methods, and the returned studentsonce studying abroad have been the most important human resources for thisestablishment and development.Chinese modern and contemporary psychology experienced a special process whichfrom dependent to independent, from common to special, from choice to necessary, fromundergraduate to postgraduate. Both the constructions of psychological teacher teamsand faculties, as well as the arrangements of psychology curricula and experimentequipments experienced and are experiencing a continuous development and enlargement.Both educators and psychologists devoted themselves to the discussions of the natureof psychology and the construction of Chinese psychology, as well as the applicationsof psychological findings to social services, especially education practices,promoting the development of Chinese psychology and education.Analyzing and studying the development process of Chinese modern and contemporarypsychology, we can find as followings: Chinese psychology developed on a complicatedsocial background;the needs of social development have been the motivation of thedevelopment of Chinese psychology;Chinese psychology has developed as a functionof Chinese education which provides a widest space for it and the most typicalcharacteristic of it;the expansion of psychological influences has been an importantsocial condition of the development of Chinese psychology;the development of Chinesepsychology must insist on both theories and practices;the future of Chinesepsychology is to build a native Chinese psychology system, and a multi-levels ofpsychology model must be set up.
