Abstract/Summary:
In china, the study of Liao, Jin, Yuan literature has been inadequate. This does not justice to the richness of the Liao, Jin, and Yuan literature. Liao, Jin and Yuan dynasties were established by ethnic minorities in remote border regions. They emerged one after another, living in vast territories, unmatched by other minority groups. More importantly, the literature of the Han had undergone many changes, some of which had been caused by the Non-Han nationalities. They broadened and changed the direction of Chinese literature. This important phenomenon has not been well researched. This dissertation aims at examining the literary works by Non-Han writers of the Liao, Jin, and Yuan dynasties. The author adopts a literary and historic approach. The dissertation includes four chapters. Chapters one analyses the literary achievements of Non-Han writers, and their contribution to the development of Chinese literature. The next three chapters examine the texts by these writer and the social backgrounds in which they lived; the differences among these writers and their works; and their different contribution and status in the context of Chinese literary history.
