This thesis makes an attempt to discuss and interpret comprehensively "Water Margin"drama in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty from the viewpoint of chivalrous culture, and try hard to make a new annotation explanatory note to accumulate in culture of the Water Margin drama.This thesis is made up of three organic parts: the first part explains the development of "Water Margin"story firstly, and then interprets the change of theme and connotation in culture about "The Water Margin"drama separately;the second part mainly discusses some typical chivalrous expert swordsmen, such as Song Jiang, Lin Chong, Li Kui, Wu Song, Hu Sanniang, Sun Erniang and so on;the third part mainly interprets the common cultural psychology and manners and morals which "Water Margin"drama reflects.On the basis of the comprehensive analysis ,we can not only draw the conclusion that the winding destiny of "Water Margin" drama reflects collective unconsciousnessof the Chinese nation—the common cultural psychology and esthetic ideal ofthe entire nationality, but also we can tell the difference from literati tradition and folk tradition. Therefore, this thesis expects to arose people's ponderation and self-questioning to Chinese ancient traditional culture.
