《Kao Gong Ji》 was an ancient book which recorded the technical specifications, technological processes and regulatory regimes of the departments responsible for manufacturing implements before the Qin Dynasty, and was first seen in the books in the Western Han Dynasty. The book was used to fill a vacancy of 《Dong Guan》 in 《Zhou Ceremony》, and so combined with 《Zhou Ceremony》 into one, 《Dong Guan Kao Gong Ji》 . The academic circles are-still debating nowadays when and by whom the book was written, but they all speak highly of it and regard it as the earlist original documents handed down from ancient times about science and technology as well as industrial art. The scholars engaged in the science and technology, industrial art, culturology, ideology and archaeology often cite the records in 《Kao Gong Ji 》 as an essential documental proof for their research subjects.The meaning of 《Kao Gong Ji》 , with its obscure languages, is hard to be understood. As a part of the Confucian classics 《Zhou Ceremony》, 《Kao Gong Ji》 has been noted, interpreted and illustrated by various scholars through the ages from Eastern Han Dynasty, and has composed a very complicated network of interpretations, which is a large sum of academic wealth and precious deposits of documental materials for us to use for reference while studying and using it. The thesis focuses on the the annotations and researches on 《Kao Gong Ji》 from Han till Qing Dynasty, intends to investigate and classify them systematicly and critically and lay a solid foundation for further exploration. The thesis mainly analyzes and criticizes the different characteristics and styles of studies in terms of the explanations of words in the book, the clarifications and demonstrations of the written languages in it, and the interpretations of the texts during the three periods of Han and Tang Dynasties, Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties as well as Qing Dynasty, and puts the focal point of the study on the significant achievements that the great masters like ZhengXuan, Jia Gong Yan, JiangYong, DaiZheng, Chen YiaoTian and Sun Yirang had made in their researches on 《Kao Gong Ji》 .
