Facing the linguistic context of traditional culture, Chinese classical literature, especially various kinds of classical novels, offers us a series of methods and experience in describing personages which worth summarizing and understanding conscientiously. Nowadays, with the study about narratologie becoming common practice, in order to promote the text and theory of literature to form a complete set and sound, it is necessary for us to set about constructing a localization study about Chinese describing personages.In order to strengthen opening and sense of thickness, the construction of the study about Chinese describing personages should be put under the vision of cross-cultural and the development from ancient times to the present. During concrete operation, I want to take modern rhetoric criticized theory and method to put up a discipline platform. Among them, stage theory and role's idea of the drama doctrine rhetoric criticizes, and the sociology rhetoric criticize for sex consciousness, and postmodern rhetoric criticize about symbol, benefit us to explain the phenomenon and methods about describing personages in various kinds of Chinese classical novels. Meanwhile, because the theory about Chinese describing personages draw from tradition painting theory mainly, I decide to regard the painting's "shape and spirit" theory as the basic framework consciously in the construction of the study, discuss describing appearance and painting figure, applying color, imitating spirits and mental state, describing feelings, mainly.In describing the appearance and painting the figure, this text probes into the phenomenon that explains people's appearance with something mainly. From the angle of the poetics of gender, there is inclination liken male's appearance to animal and female's appearance to plant.
