In history, North and South Dynasty have tumultuous politics and refulgent culture. When Sui Dynasty conquered North and South Dynasty, and then brought unified politics and syncretism culture. Calligraphy as one of modality of cultures, which reflects the developing process of culture, at the same time it also provides abundant content for the development of culture. Therefore, the thesis's purport studies the relationship of culture and Calligraphy of Sui Dynasty.This thesis includes three parts. The first part is about the studying of politics, culture and ideology of Sui Dynasty. The mainly characteristic of this period is that culture slowly became syncretism, widespread and standard.The second part is studying of Calligraphy of Sui Dynasty, which includes the requirement of society, calligrapher and the works of Calligraphy. Firstly, the requirement of society would reflect the process of Calligraphy; the latter also would affect the collection, appreciation and education of Calligraphy. In the collection and appreciation of Calligraphy, fanciers of Calligraphy in the North slowly had had interesting about charming characteristic of the South. At the same time, calligraphers in the South also had interesting about powerful characteristic of the Northern Calligraphy. This phenomenon materialized syncretism culture characteristics in the later of North and South Dynasty, which also provided advantaged conditions for new aesthetic conception. In the education of Calligraphy, objects of education turned around from the posted people to common person because of the change of class structure of society. Therefore, the conceptions of education of Calligraphy also had tendency of universalism and standardization.Secondly, Calligraphers is principal part in activity of Calligraphy. In North and South Dynasty, Calligraphers mainly centralize in the Changing river and Shandon province, which belonged to gentlefolk. But in the later of North and South Dynasty and Sui Dynasty, the center of Shanxi region became new center of politics and culture, which also had new passel calligraphers. These people have characteristic of civilian, which would make Calligraphy become common, in common people. Just because of this change, we can understand the characteristic culture of whole Sui Dynasty.Thirdly, in works of Calligraphy. In this thesis, we divide works of Calligraphy in Sui Dynasty into ink marks and carved stone, and at the same time we analyze and expound their different styles. Calligraphy in Sui Dynasty represents rusticity and charming characteristic, which had slowly interjected a new style. This tendency has deep influence for Calligraphy of Tang Dynasty.The third part is about contribution of history of Sui Dynasty. Through this studying, this thesis hopes that we could have comprehensive and profound understanding about the Calligraphy of Sui Dynasty which indicates the relationship between the temporal culture and the contribution of history of Calligraphy.
