Saam Kap Dai was a unique language structure widely used in Guangzhou, 1-long Kong and Macao. Early works first appeared during the final years of the Ming Dynasty. Saam Kap Dai抯 origin could be traced to the 搕alking and singing literature?in the transitional period between the Ming and the Ching Dynasties. Saam Kap Dai was made up of classical writings, Bai Hua and the Guangzhou dialect. This article will examine the origin and evolution of Saam Kap Dai with special emphasis on its formation, rise and fall in Hong Kong. It will also study the rise of the New Saarn Kap Dai which consists of a mixture of Bai Hua, Guangzhou dialect and foreign languages. This article will also study and survey the tremendously popular cartoon language at the end of the seventies. Academic experts have described this kind of language and writings as 搒and & soil? writings? 揷ocktail language?and 揾ybrid language? Compared to the new Saam Kap Dai, the old Saam Kap Dai writings were more refined and polished and much better in literary qualities. This article has selected 4 examples of Saam Kap Dai works, one each from the 1920抯 to 1930s? 1940抯, 1950抯 to 1960抯, and 1970抯 for textual analysis in order to show the evolution, social impact and language uniqueness of Saani Kap Dai.
