This dissertation aims to make a research on the relationship between Chinese Philosophy and the Dao of Go, starting from the characteristics of Chinese philosophy, card the construction, connotation and influence of the Dao of Go. This dissertation reflects the Dao of Go through analyzing ancient philosophers' interpretation of Go.As the core of Chinese culture, Chinese philosophy is the reflection of Chinese national spirit. The characteristics of Chinese philosophy are that the Dao includes all the things and the unity of heaven and human being. After interpretation from Confucius and Laozi, the concept of Dao is endowed with philosophical meaning, becoming the highest category of Chinese philosophy. When the ancient Chinese people studied Go, with the learning of the Dao, they tried to explore the connection between the Dao and Go. The Dao of Yi is extensive and all-including, and is regarded as the root of Confucianism and Daoism. Its world outlook and methodology are usually applied to explain social affairs in ancient China. In the Eastern Han dynasty, Ban Gu firstly interpreted the theory of Go with the thinking of the Zhouyi, showing the connection between Gao and Dao.Dao is the highest category in Chinese philosophy, and understanding the Dao is the highest realm for Chinese philosopher. In ancient time, people tried to study how to understand the Dao and apply the Dao, and forming different schools of philosophy. Since there is connection between Dao and Go, we can understand the Dao by Go. The ancient understand the Dao by observing the image of nature. In the Zhoyi, it said, anciently, when Bao Xi had come to the rule of all under the heaven, looking up, he contemplated the brilliant forms exhibited in the sky, and looking down he surveyed the patterns shown on the earth. He contemplated the ornamental appearances of birds and beasts and the different suitabilities of the soil. Near at hand, in his own person, he found things for consideration, and the same at a distance, in things in general. On this he devised the eight trigrams, to show fully the attributes of the spirit-like and intelligent operations working secretly, and to classify the qualities of the myriads of things. As for the Dao of Go, the changes of Go is the reflection of Dao, so we can understand the Dao by observing Go. Dao has its inexpressible meaning, people must solve the problem to understand the Dao. In the Zhouyi, it said, the written characters are not the full exponent of speech, and speech is not the full expression of ideas; is it impossible then to discover the ideas of sages? The Master said, the sages made their emblematic symbols to set forth fully their ideas; appointed all the diagrams to show fully the truth and falsehood of things; appended their explanations to give the full expression of their words; and changed the various lines and made general the method of doing so, to exhibit fully what was advantageous. People can not understand the Dao by reading words, but understand the Dao by enlightenment which is the highest realm of Chinese philosophy. So is in the Dao of Go. In the approach to Dao, people experience the enlightenment by Go, and prove the ability of enlightenment.In Chinese philosophy, it is stressed much that the Dao includes all the things. The Dao is connected with the Dao of Go. In ancient time, Go is related with the outside world extensively, such as militaries, politics, history and so on. Now, Go is related with economic theory, management thought and so on. We respect the spirit of the unity of heaven and human being, the Dao of human being is connected with the Dao of heaven, meanwhile, the Dao of Go is connected with the Dao of heaven. So Go is in touch with human being in far-range. The function of Go lies in people's self-cultivation, spirit arrangement and influence among the people and so on. Qisheng is the highest realm because it means people understand the Dao by Go. Besides, poems about Go is a brilliant wonderful work.This dissertation includes five parts. In chapter one, we introduce the characteristics of Chinese philosophy, reveal the specific value of Chinese philosophy. In chapter two, this dissertation explains the construction of Chinese philosophy and the Dao of Go, trying to explaining the connection between the heaven Dao and the Dao of Go. Go is endowed with philosophical and cultural meaning. In chapter three, it is about skill at Go and understanding Dao by observing Go. It explains the practice of self-cultivation. In chapter four, we elaborate the meaning of Dao including all things and social affairs like Go. Dao of Go has its modern application, including its relationship with politics, military, economic theory and so on. In chapter five, the unity of heaven and human being is elaborated. Under the view of Chinese philosophy, the Dao of heaven is connected with the Dao of Go, in the dimension of the unity of heaven and human being, Go is connected with human being in far-range, including the spirit of Go, sages and Qisheng, mind/heart and Go, poems of Go and so on. In the conclusion, it is about the inspiration from the connotation and meaning of Go. Originally, Go is a kind of game, and then is endowed with the Chinese philosophical meaning and cultural connotation. Go is the carrier and symbol of the Dao and serves a far-reaching influence. So it is our duty to summarize and analyze Go and re-think the characteristics of Chinese philosophy by Go.
