The Studies On 'Noun+Noun' Compounds Of Modern Chinese: The Perspective Of Cognitive Semantics

Reviewing the previous research, this paper based on the theory of cognitive language, cognitive psychology, semantic grammar, morphology and lexical semantics. We study the compound of N-N in modern Chinese.The main contents and innovations of this paper could be summarized as follows:1. dissertation summarize semantics relation of the N-N compounds in modern Chinese, and set up conceptual classes and cognitive constraints on Chinese'N-N Compounds.2. This dissertation discuss the semantics of metaphorical and metonymical noun-noun combinations carefully. And think Analogy is effective measures when coined word compound into N-N.3. This dissertation distinct the sub-categories and special classification about double-items NP from the formal and meanings. The coordinative-hypotactic construction is special, and we discuss the nature of name about this NP. The last, we try to use the mental spaces-theory to explicate the reasons why this NP can constitute.4. and we discuss the most contest areas in study of N-N compounds, for example: Langhua(浪花)and Chelian(车辆).and we think different forms of compounds will have a different meaning in the process.5. and we discuss how Chinese structure the'whole-part'relation. We think the sentence of'N2 is a part of N1'is the frame and analysis the types, The'whole-part' relation is easily confused with other semantic relations.6. and we think that the noun problem get the new meanings and indicate the bad meanings mostly in semantic prosody, find that the noun problem can combine in a large of others nouns:2358 nouns can get in the combination problem+noun, and a few kinds of nouns can get in another combination problem+noun, and think the basic function of Nouns such as problem is used in texts to refer to other passages in the text and to hypostatize them and characterize them in certain ways.7. Massive corpus calculation and analysis have been done and based on the large-scale corpus survey results. And we tries to explain the cognitive mechanism of the relation of N-N compounds carefully. According the theory of cognitive language, cognitive psychology, we successfully classifies the results, different types of N-N compounds.8. The dissertation also concerned about the coined compounds and analyzed the phenomenon in the first time.
