Objective To study the role of echocardiography in case selection, procedure monitor and follow-up in transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) and ventricular septal defect (VSD) with occluder . Methods The images were acquired with PHILIP 5500 transthoracic echocardiography with 3.5-5.5MHz transducer. Apical four chamber, subcostal four chamber view, parasternal left ventricular long-axis view and parasternal aorta short-axis view show the ASD/VSD and occluder deployed. Results 153 patients with ASD were treated successfully, 92.7% of occluder was deployed suitable at first time. The volume of right atrium/ventricle decreased to normal. 96.8% of 242 patients with VSD were treated successfully. We quantified the VSD and guide the procedure. After procedure the images of Echocardiography shows occluder deployed in defect steady. The shunt disappeared immediately. No complication occurred. Conclusions echocardiography plays an important aidant role in transcatheter closure of ASD/VSD .
