Chuanxiong and Bohe were commonly combinated to treat the exterior syndrome .Both herbs were the typical representatives whose action were to relieve the exterior syndrome with pungent and even properties. The essential oil of the two herbs(Chuanbo oil) were the main effective components to relieve the exterior syndrome. However ,there was few researches about the essential oil to treat the exterior syndrome. According to the basic theories of TCM, the effects of anti-inflammation ,relieving pain, antipyretic function and mechanism of Chuanbo oil were studiedThe chief pharmacology experiments showed:1 It could restain the inflammation induced by dimethylbenzen, acetic acid, egg white.2 It could remarkably decrease the twist-reaction stimulated by acetic acid ,also enhance the pain threshold induced by heat irritation.3 It could obviously decrease the fever induced by beer yeast in rats. The studies of the mechanism showed:1 The realization of anti-inflammation of chuanbo oil was not accorded to enhancing the function of the HPA axis. The anti-inflammation mechanism of chuanbo oil were as follow: decreasing the production of PGE2, as the lipid medium, in the process of the production of COX ,inhibiting the free-radical production NO, increasing SOD and decreasing the content of cytokine-1β which is one of the cytokine to inhibit the inflammation.2 The mechanism of analgesic effect of Chuanbo oil was to increase the periph contents of the 5-HT and decrease CGRP.3 The mechanism of antipyretic function of Chuanbo oil was to decreas the contents of hypothalamic PGE2 and cAMP, also to decrease the content of cytokine-1β.We proposed the effect of dispelling the exterior evil of Chuanxiong...
