| Lung cancer is a kind of tumor with high incidence and hard to be cured. The data shown at the first China international lung cancer seminar indicate the population with lung cancer in China is largest in the world. The incidence of lung cancer has increased from the fourth to the first among cancers since 1970 in the world. Some metropolises with heavy environmental pollution have become the"lung cancer cities", which is astonishing. Lung cancer is one of malignant tumors which impair human health severely. In some developed countries, among the common malignant tumors, the male patients with lung cancer rank top, the female patients with lung cancer rank second, and the incidence is increasing year by year. The recent statistical results of changes of death rate caused by malignant tumor in China show that in the past 20 years, lung cancer has the maximum arising extent among the malignant tumors. In 1970's, the rate was 7.09/100000, in 1990's, the rate increased to 17.54/100000. The ascending rate was 143.29%. Meanwhile, the incidence of most other tumors was descending. 80% of lung-cancer patients will die one year after diagnosis. The average life span is about 6 months. Generally, the 5 years'survival rate is between 5% and 10%. Among all kinds of lung cancers, the proportion of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is higher than 80%, and its incidence is keeping arising, which is attracting full attention.The therapeutic effect of operation of lung cancer in the early stage is better, but about 70-80% of lung cancer patients in the clinic are at the advanced stage when the final diagnosis is made. Among them, the cases which can accept the operation are rare. So, the main treatment is radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Although radiotherapy and chemotherapy are of certain recent therapeutic effect, the living quality is damaged because of the decrease of immune function and disease resistance, which results from the toxic, side effects and short paracmasia. Recently, early discovery, early treatment and combined therapy with multi-subject and multi-methods in middle and advanced stage are focused to improve effects, prolong life span and improve living quality. And the exploratory study of treating lung cancer with Chinese medicine alone or Chinese medicine combined with modern medicine is an important approach. In recent 20 years, most hospitals in China have carried out the clinical study on treating tumor with Chinese medicine combined with modern medicine. According to the general and region condition of the patients, the method of strengthening healthy'QI'to eliminate pathogens in Chinese medicine is organically combined with the methods of operation, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in modern medicine to treat the patients comparatively, and make up for each other's deficiencies.
