A model ofcustomer satisfaction was established as well. Based upon the summary of the development on control andunderstanding about product quality, the new concept of product quality was developed, which includes notonly the technology aspect but also the aspects of economy, market and environment. Then a concept forProduct Quality Design(PQD) was proposed from which the product could fulfil the quality requirementsfrom both customers and the market. A procedure was established for PQD. On the study of StirlingEngine(SE) technology, the design specifications for a SE were defined for certain customers. Theprototype was designed under the guide of PQD. The performance of the developed SE was studiedtheoretically. The SE Prototype was produced and some tests were carried out. In order to ensure thesuccess of the SE development, two softwares for performance simulation and kinematic solid simulationof SE were developed, which would be powerful tools for SE design.There are 10 chapters in the paper.Chapter 1 is the introduction. It includes the background of the study, the overview about the state ofarts in this field and the introduction to the whole paper.Starting from the problems which lie ahead of the enterprise in our country during the period ofeconomic reform, different customers and their requirements to products were analyzed in chapter 2. Themethod to define different customers and the viewpoint to develop serial products for different customerswere put forward. A model of customer satisfaction was established and the contact among customersatisfaction, product quality and product design was discussed as well.The significance of the quality and the development characteristics on the methods of quality controland the understanding of quality were summarized in chapter 3. A new concept of product quality wasdeveloped, which includes not only the technology aspect but also the aspects of economy, market andenvironment.In chapter 4, the concept of customer-chart was presented based on the analyses of customerrequirements first. Then the items of all the quality requirements were summarized into four classes. Themethod for PQD was proposed and a procedure was presented. As an example of the application of PQD,the design of SE was introduced.The detail theoretical study of SE and the analysis of influences of constructional parameters on theperformance of SE were carried out respectively in chapter 5 and chapter 7.The development of the softwares for performance simulation and kinematic solid simulation of theSE designed here was introduced in chapter 6 and chapter 8 respectively. The output power of thedeveloped prototype of SE was forecasted by means of BP algorithm.
