How to overcome contradictions is always an important issue in human society developing process. In nowadays of 21 century, it has been a major social problem for politicians of every country to eliminate social contradictions and create a harmonious world. And it is a long-time social task for the scientists to overcome engineering contradictions and innovate on the scientific theories and practices.Engineering contradiction is the incompatible or opposing elements on engineering. Before the Extenics was established, formalizing and systematic research on contradiction problem was always lacking. Formalizing representation of contradiction, measuring of contradiction status, the identification of main contradiction, the conversion of contradiction elements, the means of contradiction processes and the evaluation of contradiction eliminating effect research all lacked relational theory and efficient technique process. The elimination and reconciliation of contradictions in practical application are still stopping on the stage of individual experience.It is an urging problem in the information age development to formalize engineering contradiction, make quantizing introduction on contradiction status, and establish contradiction conversion and elimination formalizing process to accomplish intelligent processing on contradiction by computer. Surrounding the engineering contradiction, this article particularly issues on the work and researches on main aspects as follows:1.Contradiction problem and the formalizing and quantizing research on contradictionFor the engineering contradiction problem, we need construct paradox and paradox function which describe contradiction, and figure out the degree of quantizing contradiction status to solve the quantizing problem of contradiction status on engineering. When describe the formalization of contradiction by paradox function, research single character paradox function structure and the related characters. Research the multi-character paradox function according to the condition of multi characters in paradox. Figure out homogeneous concept and describe paradox status of contradiction by the homogeneous concept. And supply a judging and measuring tool for the identification of main contradiction.2.Contradiction information model, and contradiction conversion and operation researchDescribe and define the eight basic operations and the meaning. They are the research on binary group of contradiction and paradox relationship, the discussion on the conversion of contradiction, contradiction characters and the measuring data of contradiction characters, and the replace and reduction of the replace, separation, transform, metachoresis, region change, interaction, accretion and conversion to accomplish these conversions. Research and figure out the function reflecting the contradiction conversion and elimination process—convert function. Build the formalizing model describing contradiction information by matter-element—contradiction element, supplying basic formalizing describing elements for the computer to intelligent contradiction processing.3.Identification research on the main contradiction in contradiction assemblyBring up a suitable and efficient identification method for main contradiction to contradiction assembly. Build a new kind of coordinate for the identification of main contradiction, namely the isometric flat coordinate, and research the characters and function relating to the isometric flat coordinate. Clearly describe the contradiction assembly inside a contradiction and the status of each contradiction by this coordinate, and build and research the contradiction circumstance based on the isometric flat coordinate. Meanwhile, research the contradiction static distribution represented by the contradiction circumstance, the dynamic change of contradiction, the partition of primary and secondary contradictions and the process and methods of contradiction eliminating. To ensure the correctness of contradiction status representation, the contribution of contradiction needs to be defined to build weighted contradiction circumstance. For the identification of main contradiction, raise and research two algorithms:homogeneous dividing algorithm and random median of two points dividing algorithm. Contradiction circumstance and these two algorithms supply a feasible method and means for computer intelligent processing.4.Contradiction elimination and the research of the program evaluationResearch the general means and processing method of the contradiction reduction and elimination. Raise the energy—difficulty measuring principle. Research the humanity feeling of "difficult" measuring problem. Accomplish the measuring on difficulty by applying nature energy and manpower energy, and establish a feasible and efficient describing method for manpower energy so that these two energies can apply same pattern in formalization processing. Research the contradiction conversion degree, conversion loss and conversion difficulty, and, based on which, establish evaluation function for the contradiction reduction solution, achieving definite evaluation about the contradiction processing. Supply foundation and tool for computer intelligent evaluation on the contradiction processing solution.This paper introduces the Extenics theory related to contradiction, especially for the detailed research and analysis on the difference to Extenics. And this paper also summarizes innovation points and main achievements, and points out the follow-up problem that needs further research.
