The method and the technology of synthesizing heavy aromatic petroleum sulfonate by heavy aromatic hydrocarbon and sulfur trioxide and the properties of synthesized product are studied in this paper. The study includes two parts of laboratory experiments and industrial pilot production. The laboratory experiments provide basic synthesis method, technologic conditions and relative laws. Based on these, the industrial pilot production of heavy aromatic petroleum sulfonate is carried out by using spraying process, and the keyunit used in the pilot production-pressure-type sprayer is discussed in detail. The heavyaromatic petroleum sodium sulfonate is synthesized, and its adsorptive capacity, compatibility with Ca~2+ and Mg~2+, interracial activity, emulsibility, oil displacement efficiency etc. are studied. It is shown that it possesses the good properties for oildisplacement agent. In the study, a new surfactant - heavy aromatic petroleum sodiumsulfonate is synthesized by using a new crude material - heavy aromatic hydrocarbonand a new technolog - spraying process, which provides an effective oil displacementagent for the enhance of recovery factor of tertiary oil recovery, especially to viscous crude oil. The spray sulfonating technology can be modified and then is used for the industrial production of other petroleum sulfonates.
