As one most important information resource, online spatial information comes mainly from the web-mapping systems. This existence is here called as dynamic. Listed as a significant part of National Spatial Information Application and Service System, the spatial information search engine plays a key role in the spatial information sharing and services.The online spatial information exists in two ways, static and dynamic; correspondingly, the spatial information retrieval works as a static spatial information retrieval and a dynamic one, with the latter leading.Currently, the dynamic spatial information retrieval works on the premise that the online dynamic spatial information providers are known. This thesis is about the kind of spatial information search engine, which faces to the extensive Internet, with no information providers known in advance. So it adapts to the current fact more, compared with the former similar work. The engine prototype system based on OpenGIS WMS specification is developed to speak the feasibility of the theory talked in the thesis.The innovation of this thesis lies on:(1) Brings forward the concepts of static and dynamic spatial information; differentiates two kinds of corresponding spatial information retrieval clearly;(2) Gives a common design of spatial information search engine;(3) Researches and implements the spatial information search engine prototype system based on OpenGIS WMS specification.However, there are still a number of aspects that merit further investigation and implementation, such as extending the prototype systems to OpenGIS WFS specification, perfecting the geo-spatial web service based spatial information retrieval model and improving the practicality of the relevant prototype system.
