Abstract/Summary:
Being the braches of applied ethics, the study concerning bioethics, economic ethics, educational ethics and ecological ethics has already been an important field for the academia. Since 1950s, the educational ethics has achieved great progress, with the focal point being gradually transformed from the research regarding moral education and teachers’ professional ethics to the research regarding the nature, value and norms of morality and the ethical conflicts and practices occurring between all educational sects and various elements.As the study of management changed from relying on experiences and sciences to relying on the understanding of human beings’ nature, people have generally come to realize the important functions, position and significance of management ethics. While the main characteristics and trends of the study of management transfer into the state of paying more and more attention to human nature and people’s role motivated by their subjective will, taking ethics as the measure to deal with human beings’ relationship, which is traditionally the researching approach of ethics, has already become the new researching field and approach. The combination of management and ethics has become a frontier field of the research of management. The tendency that modern management research adopts the ethic angle innovate peoples’ understanding of education management. The ultimate goal of education management is to realize human beings’ all-round development, which has the characteristic of leading the trend and being idealized. The goal of ethic is devoting to the realization of establishing an ideal world and self-actualization of every person, which is also what education management wants to achieve. Therefore, there is an urgent realistic and practical significance in introducing the regulation of ethic into education management.Management ethics within independent colleges refers to one type of management thought and practice which, out of the principle of people oriented, based on respecting human nature and carrying forward humanity, resorting to the power and measures of morality in order to coordinate various internal and external relations and conflicts in independent colleges, could satisfy the needs of all relevant stakeholders and promote the harmonious and healthy development of the independent colleges and all stakeholders.This study takes the morality norms influencing special interpersonal relationship within the scope of ethic management in independent colleges as the research object, and expects to attempt to create a new thinking model and approach from the angle of ethical ultimate concern. Ethical ultimate concern is a kind of moral concern. It is to analyze and explore into social phenomena from the view of moral ideal, moral principles and moral norms to make an evaluation about the social phenomena at the level of ethic and value. Its goal is to clarify the specific issues of ethic management within independent colleges, which has mixed with the issues of ethic management within all higher education agencies. Thus, the value orientation concerning the ethic management within independent colleges can be obtained.The first type of methodology to be adopted in this dissertation is reasoning relying on theories. With Marxist ethics being the guidance, through the argument step by step in the order of ethics, pedagogy, pedagogic ethics, management and management ethic, on the bases of the tendency that the value of education and the value of ethics tend to become the same, to critically expound what is the value of higher education belonging to the current times, this dissertation is to analyze, judge and evaluate the contemporary higher education management from the angle of ethics and social responsibilities. The second type of methodology is empirical research. Taking the independent colleges as the research object, under the current circumstances of the coexistence of multi-values, through conducting research into all stakeholders related with independent colleges based on the theory from the discipline of ethics, psychology, management, sociology and economics, gathering data from the aspect of the cognition and evaluation of education system, organizational atmosphere, employee’s attitude, labor relations and the students’ gains, this dissertation is to make an assessment about the significance of how the independent colleges develop on the basis of statistic analysis. The third type of methodology is to analyze comprehensively. On the basis of empirical research and institutional analysis, by employing the achievements of theoretical research, this dissertation is to probe into the orientation of ethics value of the independent college management.The empirical research chose five independent colleges as the survey sample, designing four kinds of questionnaires with one hundred and fourteen questions aiming at all stakeholders. The two thousand and two hundred questionnaires were given out among these five chosen independent colleges. One thousand and nine hundred and ninety two useful questionnaires were taken back, which takes up 90.5% of all questionnaires that had been given out. After analyzing deeply and comprehensively into the questions of the questionnaires from the angle of the ethics management of independent colleges, the prominent problems can be summarized like the following. The first problem is people’s doubts about whether the independent colleges are of serving the public welfare. The second problem is the value orientation of the independent College Board and its influence on the development of independent colleges. The third problem is the rationality of charging all the money needed for cultivation and the rationality of self-financing mechanism. The fourth problem is the education value of running the independent colleges. The fifth problem is that teachers in independent colleges have strong will to quit the job. The sixth problem is that most students do not have strong recognition of being one member of the independent colleges they are in. The last problem, which is also the vital concern of students, is that, compared with the other proportions, the proportion of the students who are doubtful about the existence of a harmonious teachers and students’ relationship is the highest one.This dissertation, from all the different groups of stakeholders, after expounding the relevant theories, conducting survey and research and analyzing the system in detail, considers various problems needed to be addressed for the independent colleges at the current stage. For the external system environment of independent colleges, the papers combined the development of the system of non-government funded higher education and analyze the system difficulties faced with the non-government funded higher education.Taking these ethics issues into consideration, a comprehensive research was carried out through employing the disciplines of ethics, management, pedagogy, economics and public management, and proposed propositions out of the concern about values from seven aspects to achieve the purpose of proposing ethics options on the basis of value evaluation for the development of independent colleges.The first aspect is ethical values of education management of independent colleges. Being higher education agencies to carry out college education with the permission granted by the state and being one section of the educational system, independent colleges assume the important responsibility of cultivating professionals with practical capabilities.The second aspect is ethical management thingking of independent colleges management. This character embodies the following key elements, which are the people oriented value falling into the category of the existing value for the independent colleges, the self-reliance value falling into the category of independent colleges’management idea, the value of pursuing truth falling into the category of the practical value and the value of opening to the general public falling into the category of the independent colleges’ awareness of serving the general public.The third aspect is ethical orders of organizational management of independent colleges. Colleges are the carriers of the inheritance and innovation of knowledge. The core of the establishing the organizational system is the spread and innovation, which should be the ultimate goal of how the independent colleges organize. Thus, it is essential for the independent colleges to accept this goal as their mission and guidance.The fourth aspect is ethical norms of operation and management of independent colleges. The running mechanism of independent colleges should observe the basic rules in the market economy. The foundation of a sustainable of independent colleges is to meet the educational, social and economic needs. To meet the educational needs is to adhere to people-oriented principle and the priority of cultivating talents. To meet the social needs is to adhere to the principle of attaching great importance to educational quality and educational effects on the whole society to be beneficial both to the country and the people. To meet the economic needs is to gain financial rewards with the premise of realizing the sustainable development.The fifth aspect is ethical regulation of inter-personal interests of independent colleges. It is necessary to identify three types of interest’s relationships. The first one is the relationship between independent colleges and teaching staff who are combined together with an existing labor contract. The second one is the relationship between independent colleges and students who are combined together on the basis of supply and demand. The third one is the ethical relationship between teachers and students whose relationship should be transformed from teachers’monologue to equal dialogue between them.The sixth aspect is ethical practice of cultivating talents of independent colleges. Utilizing the advantages of the flexible running system of independent colleges, managing to cultivate professionals with practical capabilities, realizing the aim of making students more competent and creating unique education style, the independent colleges should attempt to set an appropriate goal in the developmental process.The last aspect is ethical environmental of management system of independent colleges. This dissertation analyzed the system environment for the management and development of independent colleges from an ethical perspective. From the perspective of management ethics, educational legislation should be focused on education welfare, balancing the interests and fairness values. Meanwhile, to improve the administrative system of ethics and its operating mechanism and to standardize administrative ethical behavior, the dissertation gives some suggestions.
