Optical antenna is an important part of the visible light communication system. Developing the suitable optical antenna to improve the performance of communication for the various requirements for wireless communication system has been an important issue which draws great attentions. This project is based on the sub-project “Research of wide spatial orientation composite-type optical antenna optimal integration mechanism” of “973” plan “Research of wide spectrum signal transmission theory and method”, and is focus on the research of theory and design of the visible light wireless communication optical antenna.Firstly, a brief discussion on the development of the visible li ght wireless communication technique is introduced. The high speed communication technique, outdoor mobile communication technique and indoor mobile communication technique are summarized in details to provide guidance for the following study in this paper. Then the optical antenna system design principle in the visible light communications is studied, and the optical antenna system design methods are summarized. The optical antenna system design theory is researched, and the relationship between field of view and optical gain is obtained, which provide evaluation standards for optical antenna system, and for the following optical antenna design. At last, based on the applications in high speed communication and mobile communication, a new location for the c orresponding optical antenna is proposed, which will be further supporting the design and the optimization of the optical antenna.The dispersive optical antenna based on the blazed grating and double cylinder lens structure, the omni-directional large field of view optical antenna composed of convex and concave reflector, and the continuous zoom optical antenna for indoor mobile visible light wireless communication are proposed in this paper, which solve problems in high speed communication, outdoor mobile communication and indoor mobile communication. According to the geometrical optical theory, Gaussian optical theory and non-imaging optical design principle, the initial structure are obtained, and the optical structure are optimize, and the three optical antenna structures are obtained respectively. Finally, according to the visible light communication system requirements, simulation and experimental analysis have been done with the three optical antenna. The results show that, the dispersion optical antenna can achieve 8 channel multi-spectrum communications, receiving efficiency is 81.6%, the field of view is 40°×16°, greatly expands the system communication bandwidth, improve the efficiency of the reveiving, suitable for multispectral WDM optical wirele ss communication; the omnidirectional large field of view optical antenna can achieve omnidirectional receiving of ±20°~±87°, optical gain is 39.8, the field of view is large and the gain is high, light energy distribution is relatively uniform, which meet the needs of outdoor mobile visible light wireless communication; the continuous zoom optical antenna receiving angle can be continuous change between 18°to 50°, the biggest optical gain is 16.2, the system length is only 18mm*6mm, have stronger mobility, stability and environmental adaptability in indoor visible light wireless communication.This paper focus on solving problems in high speed, outdoor mobile and indoor mobile visible light wireless communication, and provide new solution with optical methods, which are expected to find practical application in visible light wireless communication, and to promote the development of optical visible light wireless communication.
