The general collection of Tang Poetry in past dynasties especial Qing Dynasty have lots of valuable Xuba(preface and postscript), Xiaoyin(brief preface) and Fanli(notes on the use of a book) which are treasures without being mentioned in the library and need to be sorted out academically and studied systematically and macroscopically. This paper is titled the study on the Xuba in Tang Poetry of Qing Dynasty and the most prominent feature in the study is the discovery of new materials,new materials interpretation. The paper depends on more than two hundred fifty existing Tang Poetry of Qing Dynasty and the study of Xuba to explore the value of literature, historical value in Xuba. On the system, the paper efforts to highlight the connotation and value of Xuba and Tang poetry Collections in the Qing, identifies the differences of Xuba between general and individual collections(Zongji and Bieji),clears differences between different types of general collections and characteristics of Xuba, analyzes related document issues, investigates compilation ideas embodying in Xuba of Tang poetry Collections in the Qing and explores poetic views in Xuba by people in Qing Dynasty.So the paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one, the review on the compilation history of Tang poetry Collections, combs the Tang poetry Collections in different dynasties as the base of studying Xuba. By combing we can find the Tang Poetry Collections Compilation in different times is characterized: from prosperity in Tang and Five Dynasties, low-tide period in Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties,renaissance in Ming to great harvest in Qing. The Collections in Qing have high quality and abundant compiling types. Chapter Two discusses the differences of types in collections which results in the different characteristics of Xuba. The Xuba of anthology(Xuanji) emphasizes the “choiceness” and takes the standard “poem first and poet second” as priority; the Xuba in compilation(Heji) emphasizes the“comprehensiveness and quality ” and takes the standard “poet first” as priority; Xuba in the complete works(Quanji) emphasizes “collecting comprehensively” and takes the view “involving the whole Tang Dynasties” as priority. Chapter Three, from the perspective of document, clarifies the total amount of the Xuba in Tang Collections ofQing, discusses the issues on the addition and deletion of Xuba in resharpened and recopied books as well as the deletion and modification one in literary collections(Wenji). The paper also pays attention to the records, source of selected poem and edition values in Xuba. Chapter Four aims to explores the compiling idea embodying in the Xuba of Tang poetry Collections in Qing. This chapter finds that the motivation of compilation is influenced by the atmosphere of passion and learning for Tang.Under such kind of academic atmosphere, people feel discontent with previous editions and edit another ones, or try to take the Tang poetry Collections as a measure to rectify the corrupt practices in the poem. Meanwhile people in Qing bring diversity into the compilation of Tang poetry Collections, which demonstrates “the Tang Poetics” putting “the study of Tang poetry collections “(Xuanxue) as the core as well as emphasizes the importance of composing poetry teaching and providing samples for later followers. Chapter Five is the key of the paper and unscrambles Qing people’s understanding of Tang poetry history, demonstration of master poet and discussion of poet style by exploring attitudes towards poetic in Tang poetry Collections in Qing. The chapter includes the division of Tang poem, “among one hundred generations”——the discovery of the middle Tang’s meaning as well as the demonstration from Tang poetry master and other masters. In addition, from Xuba, we can find that the division in part of Tang poetry Collections is more close to the reality of Tang. And Tang poetry Collections in Qing have more collections of Septasyllabic and pays special attentiion to Septasyllabic poetry.
