When we comparative the Gradual Path to Enlightenment of Tibetan Buddhism and Han Buddhism, the first condition is to prove the existence of Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment, and combed through its system, content. The next is compare them of. Because the Tibetan Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment is very clear. Conversely, the Han Buddhism is regarded as nothing. So, if the Han Buddhism didn’t has the Gradual Path to Enlightenment, we will couldn’t comparative anything. This study argue that, the Han Buddhism has a particular Gradual Path to Enlightenment. It can be proved from the following five aspects. Firstly, from the definition, the Gradual Path to Enlightenment is the Path to Enlightenmen’s program, order, structure, and other forms of organization and internal logic system, all buddhist branches have this system. Secondly, the Han Buddhism also use the conception of "Gradual Path to Enlightenment". Thirdly, the Gradual Path to Enlightenment is not only a conception, but also a theoretical formation. Fourthly, the Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment has individualism itself. Fifthly, the Sudden Enlightenment and Gradually Enlightenment is not absolutely opposition, but have the oneness, both them belong to "the Path to Enlightenment". Why the Han Buddhism is considered "no Gradual Path to Enlightenment"? The first reason is Han Buddhism rarely use the conception of "Gradual Path to Enlightenment" to express it’s characteristicse. The second reason is scholars often use the standard of Indian Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Hinayana Buddhism to judge it. This Judgement has rationality, but it’s not very scientific used the same standard between different things. From the actual situation, the development of Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment can be divided into three periodse, the Early Period, the Mature Period and the Hidden Period. The Early Period, the main content is Four Dhyanas and Eight Samadhis, the idea of Origin Empty, which has been integrated into the Confucianism and Daoism of Han culture elements, showing characteristics of "sudden enlightenment" and "integrate harmony". The Mature Period, Han Buddhism are respectively established a mature phase of cultivation system, fully display the Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment. In general, the Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment consists of linear step, independent step, round step as a multiple-layered system. The Hidden Period, due to various factors, such as historical or cultural fault present, only Zen, Nembutsu, Tiantai were actived in the historical stage, Although the Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment hasn’t the name, but there are in fact. So, the Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment can be compared with Tibetan Buddhism. Carding, interpretation, contrast, their differences mainly summarized as the following:firstly, the theoretica premise are different. Tibetan’s is "Three Kinds", Han’s is "Movable Kinds". Secondly, the structure are different. Tibetan’s is "The ways of three kinds of disciples", but Han’s is "The ways of Round kinds of disciples". Thirdly, main characteristics are different. Tibetan’s are grandness, stringency, robustness, perfect syncretism, but Han’s are grandness, tridimensional character, simplification, flexibility. Fourthly, the content are different. Tibetan’s have a complexity system, emphasized gradually, pay attention to the Esoteric Buddhism; the Han’s have a simple system, tended to sudden enlightenmentand Exotoric Buddhism. While theirsame point are like this:firstly, the same principles of Judgement. For example, the goal is to free all beings, the realm is nirvana, the methods are harmonious state, the beings are many kinds of classification, the flexibility of teaching methods, the structure of methods are relativity. Secondly, the same thinking of organizing. Integrate the doctrine and practice, lay emphasis on Hinayana, Mahayana, Tantrayana. The same p’an-chiao thinking. Thirdly, the same core elements. For example, the bodhicitta, good teacher, religious discipline, samatha-vipassana, yuishiki, madhyamika. Fourthly, there are all harmony system. Seen from the outside, Tibetan’s is gradual and the Han’s is sudden, but they are all the harmony system that both contained gradual and sudden elements. In general, the difference of local culture lead to the differences between Tibetan Buddhism and Han Buddhism’s Gradual Path to Enlightenment. But the cause of the common, which have roots in Indian Buddhism and the psychological commonalities between Tibetan and Han people. The Gradual Path to Enlightenment is core content of Tibetan and Han Buddhism, comparison of the two, for in-depth study and learn from each other, there are many important meaningse in our works.
