The development of effective and safe immunosuppressants for the treatment of organ transplant rejection and autoimmune, allergic and inflammatory diseases is a major goal of contemporary immunosuppressive therapy. Despite their widespread utility, classic immunosuppressants have several important undesirable side effects such as nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, bone marrow suppression and certain oncogenicity. Identification of new bio-immunosuppressant with higher selectivity and lower toxicity represents the trend of immunosuppression study.Immunosuppressive factors derived from many kinds of cell especially tumor cells could suppress the immune function of the body. Since cytokines are signaling proteins play critical roles in orchestrating the generation of effector cell and mediating diverse functions involved in immune responses, discovery of and study on novel immunosuppressive factors can give new insights into mechanisms of immune responses regulation and disease occurrence, and provide new candidates for immunosuppression treatment.
