The epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) emergency possesses necessarily three factors: infectious source, transmission route and susceptible person. According to epidemiology, the infectious occurrence of SARS has necessarily the causation of disease (pathogen), host and environment. Adopted the epidemiological methods, this study focuses on the pathogen, infectious host and the living environment; which includes three parts: the epidemiological feature, the methods compared and the influential factors. The study is shown in detail as following. Objectives(l)According to clinically diagnosed cases of SARS between November 2002 and May 2003 in Guangdong, the epidemiological features of experimentally diagnosed cases of SARS had been described, including the time distribution, the district distribution and the population distribution; meantime, the odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidential interval (CI) of risk factors of SARS were been counted.(2)To compare the detective methods of SARS and assess their sensitivity, specificity, reliability and cost-effectiveness, it is hopeful to conclude the optimal diagnosis strategy of SARS.
